The Benefits of Battleground Holidays

I’ve never seen a definitive guide to how useful Battleground Holidays are, so I thought I’d write one. Battleground Holidays (sometimes referred to as Battleground Weekends or ‘Call to Arms’) have gone through many different iterations, and you can now enjoy the most useful and easy to use version that Blizzard have ever released.

The basic concept is of a time (starting first thing on a Friday and finishing last thing on a Monday) where a particular Battleground will have enhanced honor returns and reputation rewards. Also, thanks to the new LFB tool, you can repeatedly queue for the relevant Battleground and gain extra honor through doing so. The queues are generally nice and fast, because this a popular way to do things. There will always be one Battleground highlighted for Call to Arms every Friday to Monday, labelled as such in the PVP Interface (H + Battlegrounds tab in the default UI.)

The Extra Reward gains are as follows:

All Call to Arms Battlegrounds:
Choosing a specific Battleground with the Call to Arms bonus active will yield the exact same rewards as when choosing the Random Battleground option.

  • Winning a Call to Arms Battleground for the first time in a day will award players with 30 Honorable Kills worth of additional Honor currency and 25 Arena points.
  • Additional Call to Arms Battleground victories after the first win for a player that day will award them with 15 Honorable Kills worth of additional Honor currency.
  • Losing a Call to Arms Battleground will award players with 5 Honorable Kills worth of additional Honor currency.

Warsong Gulch:

This one is simple, normally each Flag gives 35 Reputation, on a Call to Arms, it’s 45 Reputation. That means 135 rep per CtA win.

Bonus Honor Normal Holiday
Flag Capture 2 Kill(s) 2 Kill(s)
Win 1 Kill(s) 3 Kill(s)
Map Complete 2 Kill(s) 4 Kill(s)

Arathi Basin:

As resources are captured in this battleground: Normally 150 resources gives 10 Reputation, on a Call to Arms, it’s every 140 resources for 10 Reputation. This means 110 reputation per AB won instead of 100.

Bonus Honor Normal Holiday
Honor per resource 1 Kill(s) per 330 resources 1 Kill(s) per 200 resources
Win 1 Kill(s) 1 Kill(s)
Map Complete 1 Kill(s) 1 Kill(s)

Alterac Valley:

This one is rather complex, seeing as there are so many things that affect honor and reputation in AV.

Bonus Honor Normal Holiday
Tower Destruction 3 Kill(s) 3 Kill(s)
Enemy NPC Kill 0 Kill(s) 0 Kill(s)
Captain Kill 3 Kill(s) 3 Kill(s)
General Kill 4 Kill(s) 4 Kill(s)
Map complete 0 Kill(s) 4 Kill(s)
Per owned graveyard 0 Kill(s) 0 Kill(s)
Live Captain 2 Kill(s) 2 Kill(s)
Per undestroyed Tower 2 Kill(s) 2 Kill(s)
Per owned Mine 0 Kill(s) 0 Kill(s)
Bonus reputation Normal Holiday
Tower Destruction 12 Honor point 18 Honor point
Enemy NPC Kill 5 Honor point 5 Honor point

Live Captain 125 Honor point 175 Honor point
Per undestroyed Tower 12 Honor point 18 Honor point
Per Owned Mine 24 Honor point 36 Honor point

Eye of the Storm:

There is no reputation for EotS but there is bonus honor to be had.

Bonus Honor Normal Holiday
Honor per resource 1 Kill(s) per 330 resources 1 Kill(s) per 200 resources
Win 1 Kill(s) 1 Kill(s)
Map Complete 1 Kill(s) 1 Kill(s)

Strand of the Ancients and Isle of Conquest:

Blizzard haven’t implemented any exact numbers, preferring instead to give a flat 20% increase to most (but not all) of the honor giving things in these Battlegrounds.

Seeing as they come around every week, they have to be in some form of order, right? They are, on all servers. As of Patch 3.2.2, battleground holidays have the following cycle:

  • Alterac Valley
  • Warsong Gulch
  • Strand of the Ancients
  • Isle of Conquest
  • Arathi Basin
  • Eye of the Storm

Take what you can from these. If you’re grinding reputation for whatever reason, or indeed honor, this is a great way to do it.
