Getting an ICC Frostwyrm
The 10 man hardmodes achievement is something my raiding team is semi-attempting. Due to scheduling, we tend to run ICC10 anywhere between one and two times a week, the first raid is a clear up to Sindragosa and the second is Sindragosa progression and fight learning for the DPS that get rotated in. Thusly, the first raid is taking down the same 10 bosses every time, and we’ve tried for the odd achievement. I thought I’d cover how we’ve done the ones we’ve attempted so far, in order, and our ideas for the other ones, as sketchy as they may be.
Defeat Lord Marrowgar without any raid member remaining impaled for more than 8 seconds in 10-player mode.
All that you need here is attentive DPS who can do decent burst damage on the Bone spikes. Having most of the raid in a clump behind the boss is best for this achievement, as melee can help out there as well.
Full House (Lady Deathwhisper)
Defeat Lady Deathwhisper with at least 5 different kinds of Cultist active at the time of her demise in 10-player mode.
We haven’t even looked at this one yet, however, I believe it would be doable if we devote a fast DPS to kite some of the adds.
I’m on a Boat (Gunship Battle)
Claim victory in the Gunship battle without any raid member visiting the enemy ship more than twice in 10-player mode.
Again, not really investigated this, although I’ve heard having your players wait on the enemy ship between mages can work wonders.
Defeat the Deathbringer before Mark of the Fallen Champion is cast three times in 10-player mode.
Keeping your ranged raid members all spread out at least 12 yards apart. Saurfang will be casting Blood Nova on one random ranged member, and it will splash to anyone nearby. Anyone who takes damage from this will give him 1 blood power.
Not letting the Blood Beasts he summons (2 on 10 man, 5 on 25 man) every 30 seconds or so melee anyone. The blood beasts need to be kited/stunned and not land a melee hit on anyone. For each swing they land, they give Saurfang 1 blood power. Recommend using hunter slowing traps, earthbind totems, typhoon etc.
The Rune of Blood will be put on the current tank every 30 seconds or so. When Saurfang melees the tank with this debuff, the tank takes more damage and heals Saurfang. Some places report the healing being negated if you just swap your offtank to a DPS spec, but for this achievement you also need to consider that Saurfang will be dealing 2 sources of damage when he swings a tank with this debuff – his white damage plus the damage proc off the rune, and so he’ll be getting 2 blood power per swing instead of one. You can simply have 2 tanks rotate to negate this.
Dances with Oozes (Rotface)
Defeat Rotface without a Big Ooze casting Unstable Ooze Explosion in 10-player mode.
In order to get this achievement, you must coordinate the spawning and merging of the Small Oozes. To keep the large Ooze from reaching 5 stacks and exploding, you need allow the oozes that spawn to stay on the current target that obtained the debuff. Once the oozes start spawning, it is a DPS race and you must burn Rotface down as fast as possible before you get overrun by oozes. We haven’t tried this yet.
Defeat Festergut while none of the players in your raid group ever had 3 stacks of Inoculated in 10-player mode.
The way to do this is to have each of the first two people who get the spores be the only ones to get the debuff. However, the second time around, you need to have everyone EXCEPT the first two get inoculated. After everyone is at one stack, you need to have EVERYONE get inoculated on the 3rd spore, which will bring everyone to 2 stacks and 50% resistance. Now in order to finish the boss off and get the achievement, you must make sure to pop Bloodlust and any damage reduction right before Pungent Blight in order to survive… Everyone will be taking massive amounts of damage. As long as you have decent healers, this should be doable.
Nausea, Heartburn, Indigestion… (Professor Putricide)
Defeat Professor Putricide without using Regurgitated Ooze on the Abomination in 10-player mode.
This sounds horrible, and we aren’t even considering this till the buff is a few stacks higher!
Defeat the Blood Council without anyone in the raid taking more than 23,000 spell damage in a single hit in 10-player mode.
There are 3 things (each caused by the empowered boss) which could cause you to lose this achievement. Valanar: Empowered Shock Vortex. When he casts it, you must spread out quickly to avoid multiple people blowing up near one another. I’m not too sure if for the purpose of this achievement each hit counts only as 7k damage, or if damage is cumulative, so this one may not be strictly necessary, however it’s something you’ll want to do to survive the fight, so ehh, might as well do it anyway. Taldaram: Empowered Ball of Flames. When this is cast, the player who it focuses needs to run away. The further it has to move, the less damage it does (it’s also believed that the more damage it does to other players as it moves the less damage it does on final impact, however we didn’t focus on this, and simply running away to the back of the room was enough). Keleseth: Empowered Shadow Lance. Your Keleseth tank wants to have 4 stacks of the Dark Nucleii debuff up at all times, so that when Keleseth becomes empowered he will deal significantly lower damage for the duration. This should be done regardless, as our healers had some trouble keeping our Nucleii tank (a DK) up with 3 stacks, and found it literally impossible with 2.
Defeat Blood-Queen Lana’thel once as a vampire and again without becoming a vampire in 10-player mode.
This one is, in theory, easy, requiring two trips to this boss, and being a Vampire on one occasion and not on the other. However, this one is a real pain to get from the perspective of (especially ranged) DPS. If you’re high DPS, your raid is obviously going to want you to become a vampire for the huge bonus DPS you get… especially if you’re high -ranged- DPS, since your damage won’t be interrupted when she goes up into the air phase. On the other hand, it’s going to be annoying for healers, because unless they receive the initial vampire debuff from Lana’thel right off the bat, then they’ll be last on the priority list to be bitten by infected players, since they receive no benefit from being infected. Not to mention you’ll never finish the fight without becoming a vampire if you just happen to be, say, unlucky, and she always picks you.
Enter every portal spawned by Valithria Dreamwalker before healing her to full health in 10-player mode.
This is not a ‘personal’ achievement. Your raid has to take all spawning portals – so every time the portals spawn all of them have to be ‘closed’ by someone. Very easy achievement if you run 3 healers (recommended regardless if you’re doing this achievement or not). With only three portals at a time, you can send two of the healers and a caster dps down. After a few portal phases (and with over 20 stacks of the buff), the two healers will be HPS machines and the caster should be able to gun down most mobs as they spawn.
All You Can Eat (Sindragosa)
Defeat Sindragosa in 10-player mode without any member of your raid receiving more than 5 stacks of Mystic Buffet.
Wah, is all I can say.
Been Waiting a Long Time for This (Lich King)
Allow Necrotic Plague to stack to 30 before defeating the Lich King in 10-player mode.
… And again.
Neck-Deep in Vile (Lich King)
Kill every Vile Spirit that spawns before it explodes and then defeat the Lich King in 10-player mode.
Heroic: Storming the Citadel, The Plague Quarter, The Crimson Hall, The Frostwing Halls
Basically clear up to the Lich king on 10-player Heroic mode.
We have a way to go before we do this!
And there you have it. We’re not massively going for these things, but it would be nice to accomplish, and I reckon we’ll manage it with the 30% buff. Onwards on a Frostbrood vanquisher!
PS. Got this the other night whilst raiding. Bad ploy is bad. I may have to complain to Blizzaid Entertainment.
